Devotional Story

More About Home Trust Me. There is plenty of room for you in my Father's home. John 14:1, Message.

Mr and Mrs Abraham Lincoln invited Italian singer Adelina Patti to the White House in 1862. The president's aides hoped the woman's singing would ease the president's and his wife's grief after the death of their 11 year-old son, Willie.

Miss Patti sang her repertoire of songs, ending with “The Last Rose of Summer,” one of the saddest songs of the day. Her last song left Mary Lincoln in tears, and the president covering his face with his hands. While trying to think of a happy song to sing, the president asked her to sing Payne's “Home, Sweet Home.”

“Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam, be it ever so humble, there's no place like home.” The promise of one day going home to live with God forever and to see their precious son comforted the grieving parents.

When Jesus says, “Trust me,” He means it. From a tar paper shack beside the railroad track to the presidential White House on Pennsylvania Avenue, Jesus' promise to return and take us “home” to live with Him forever brings an out-of-this-world peace and joy to all God's children at any time of year.
